Biomass gasification is a promising alternative for heat and electricity production in small cogeneration units. However, tar and dust present in the gas make it unsuitable for the direct utilization in internal combustion motors, turbines and fuel cells. The classical cleaning technologies used in industrial application for tar and dust removal (coal gasification and carbonization) are not acceptable due to the high investment costs, wastewater production and loss of process efficiency.Application of the high temperature filtration with catalytic tar removal provides effective gas cleaning without previous gas cooling. That enables to increase of process efficiency and the clean gas can be used as a fuel for high temperature fuel cells, gas turbines or after cooling in heat exchanger as a fuel for conventional power system.
