Thermal pre-tratment to improve sludge anaerobic degradability: effects of microvawe and classical heating.
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Due to the slow degradability of waste activated sludge, high retention times are required in conventional mesophilic digesters, with consequences for the costs of sludge processing. Thermal pre-treatments have shown their capability in promoting the sludge hydrolysis, which is generally considered the rate limiting step in solids digestion. The main scopes of this experimentation are: (i) the evaluation of the effectiveness of an economical thermal pre-treatment on primary sludge and secondary sludge;(ii) the comparison of Microwave Heating (MH) and Classical Heating (CH) under the same experimental conditions. As regards sludge disintegration, MH and CH resulted much more effective on secondary sludge than primary sludge. Considering the results from four BMP series, it is possible to assert that the heating pre-treatments strongly enhanced the anaerobic biodegradability of secondary sludge, but did not produce significant effects on primary sludge. When the same temperature course
