Nonconforming fuels on the Czech market

The quality of motor fuels in the Czech Republic is monitored by the Czech Trade Inspection. The results of the fuel quality monitoring show, that there is still a relatively big portion of bad fuels on the market. For example, 1.8 % of all tested automobile gasolines and 3.7 % of all tested diesel fuels had bad quality in 2013. Bad quality can be caused by contamination during handling or by illegal manipulation, which can be associated with the tax evasions. Standard fuel quality tests usually do notdiscover the cause of bad fuel quality. Sophisticated analytical procedures may be necessary to prove the fuels composition. High temperature gas chromatography was successfully applied to samples of nonconforming automobile fuels. Characteristic chromatograms were obtained and interpreted.
