Results of environmental sampling in Kazakhstan: heavy metals in sediments and soils
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This chapter focused on the monitoring and evalution of concentrations of heavy metals in soils and sediments in central Kazakhstan. Contaminated sites as well as sites where contamination was not expected in order to generate comparable background levels were investigated in this study. Concentration of heavy metals were distinctly lower in backgroundd samples than at sites affected by industrial activities. The adverse impact of industrial activity was especially evident in the Balkhash region, wherethe average concentration of heavy metals near metallurgical works is up to two orders of magnitude higher than in background samples. A potential adverse health effects were discussed and proved by health risk assessment.
