Aerobic Phenol Degradation by Immobilized Mixed Microbial Population in Flow Reactors
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Phenol belongs to aromatic pollutants, which are present in the wastewaters of numerous industries including those from the oil refining, petrochemical, coal coking and coal gasification industries. Some of them are also accumulated in environment. A removal of phenol from such wastewaters is a technical and economical problem. Its removal can be achieved by aerobic or anaerobic biodegradations. Some microorganisms are able to utilize phenol as a sole carbon and energy source. The study was focused on an aerobic phenol degradation from the water phase. The phenol degradation proceeded in packed bed reactors. As a packing material for a cell immobilisation the following materials were applied: coco-fibres, polyurethane foam particles, porous glass ballsand expanded slate. A specially developed mixed microbial culture served as the catalyst. Two different types of bioreactors were used. Degradations were performed at 30 C, pH value of inlet medium was kept constant (7.2) and that of the
