Biofiltration of Toluene, Ethanol, and Hexane by a Compost Bed Biofilter
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Compost based biofilters were successfully applied in the treatment of emissions from soil vapour extraction (SVE) units which serve as the soil remediation technique for a cleaning of contaminations from e.g. leaking underground storage petroleum tanks.Soils contaminated with gasoline contain mostly C6 to C12 organic compounds. The organic C6 compound hexane is the most volatile of them. A 18 litres bench-scale compost biofilter was in operation for three-month period. A degradation of the simulated gasoline containing ethanol (a mixture of toluene, hexane and ethanol) was studied.During the start up period the biofilter was loaded with a mixture of the above mentioned compounds in the ratio hexane/toluene/ethanol = 36 % wt/ 36 % wt/ 28 % wt. The organic load (OL) of each of them was in a range of 20 to 25 g.m-3.h-1 and the mean residence time was 2.2 min. (kept constant). The degradation of ethanol was total from the second day of the operation. The degradation of toluene started af
