Comparison of Dinitrotoluene Degradation by a Mixed Culture in Aqueous Batch System
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
A mixed culture enriched from aged nitrotoluenes-contaminated soil from an ammunition plant in the Czech Republic was used to study biodegradation of 2,4-dinitrotoluene (2,4-DNT) and 2,6-dinitrotoluene (2,6-DNT) in aqueous solution under aerobic conditions. The study was conducted in shake flasks containing mineral salt medium. In first set of experiments degradations of the individual 2,4-DNT and 2,6-DNT were tested. The medium was either supplemented with glycerol or with succinate as primary carbon sources. Two different initial DNT concentrations (5.2 or 25 mg.L-1) were used in these experiments. The results proved the total removal of 2,4-DNT after 4 days and 2,6-DNT after 7 days in case of lower starting DNT concentrations and in presence of glycerol. With succinate 2,4-DNT was removed after 10 days but 2,6-DNT was poorly removed.Higher DNT concentrations were also removed better in case of 2,4-DNT but to 50 % after 6 days only. In addition, a metabolite accumulated in the medium
