Terahertz Pulsed Spectroscopy in Identification of Sertraline
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Terahertz vibrational spectroscopy is used in plenty of physical and chemical disciplines, one of them being the analysis of polymorphs. Polymorphism is a phenomenon of solid chemical compounds existing in more than one crystalline form. It is also crucial for the pharmaceutical industry, since the different polymorphs can lead to the manufacture of drugs with very different bioavailability and stability. Therefore, not all of the polymorphs are suitable for the formulation of an active pharmaceutical substance (API). The studied molecule, sertraline, is an antidepressant serving as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Among others, it is mostly sold under the trade name Zoloft (containing mainly sertraline hydrochloride). Sertraline and sertraline hydrochloride occur in several polymorphic structures which differ from each other in their stability or physical properties. Some of the polymorphs were prepared during the study. The aim of the study is to distinguish between several polymorphs of a chemical substance. The terahertz pulsed spectra of sertraline polymorphs were recorded in the frequency range from 5 cm-1 to 120 cm-1. The measurements were performed using TeraView TPS Flextra 300 instrument.
