Human scent analysis – class identification

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

Czech legislation accepts scent identification using specially trained dogs (olfactory method) only as supportingevidence. Therefore, an effort is being made to support this identification with instrumental analysis– olfactronically.A methodology1 for contact sampling of odour samples was created. A volunteer rubs the glass beadson the palms of their hands, which are then extracted into ethanol and analysed using two-dimensional gaschromatography (GC×GC-MS-TOF).Class identification means dividing people based on certain physical characteristics – sex, ethnic origin, age, blood type, disease, eye and hair colour, etc.Differences between ethnic origins were examined in three separate studies. In this preliminary study, samplesfrom the 65 volunteers were collected – 19 Mongoloids (15 Vietnamese, 4 Indian), 4 Negroids, and 42 Europoids. In the case of differences between Vietnamese and Europoids, it was possible to assignvolunteers to the group with a success rate of 95% by using the Nearest Neighbor data mining method.2,3 In thecase of differences between Indians and Europoids, the samples can be divided into two groups.4 The samplesof Negroid and Europoid volunteers are only slightly different.5In the other study6, the effects of blood types (within the AB0 blood type system) on human scent were studied.Differences between the blood types A and 0, which were recognisable already in the scent chromatograms, werealso confirmed by statistical analysis. In the second part of this study, the effects of the Rh factors were studied.Particularly in the case of the blood type 0, differences between Rh factors were found7. Volunteers who knewtheir Rh factors were divided into two groups according to their positive or negative Rh factor. There was alsoone volunteer, who was not informed of his Rh factor. Using statistics, this volunteer was assigned to the groupof Rh-negative.
