The Influence of Hypobaric Hypoxia on Contrast Sensitivity of Czech Air Force Pilots.
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Pilot can be exposed to the hypoxia load during critical phase of flight. His ability to keep vision is essential for successful finishing the flight. Correct contrast sensitivity is an important condition of correct visual space orientation. A group of46 Czech Air Force pilots were exposed to the hypoxic load in a hypobaric chamber at the simulated altitude of 25 000 ft. Duration of the hypoxic load was 5 min. Load examinations were accomplished at the 4th minute. Contrast sensitivity was examined byusing Vistech examination tables. Hypoxic contrast sensitivity examination of all pilots showed impairment of results at one frequency at least. The relation between contrast sensitivity and the value of saturation of peripheral oxyhaemoglobin (% SpO2) was compared. Results confirm high rate of correlation between decreasing of the value of % SpO2 and decreasing contrast sensitivity of vision. Contrast sensitivity is impaired significantly at all frequencies by hypoxic hypoxia at the lev
