The text deals with connections between dance (especially artistic) and sports in the modernism, manifested in many aspects as health care and physical condition, relation to nature, spending of free time, expressing of one’s individuality, use of both phenomena in ideological and political context (emancipation movement, mass sport and dance performances). On the other hand it identifies differences as competitiveness important in sports and aesthetic and emotional accent in dance. Also the social response and acceptance of the phenomena were different.
