In this study I present a philosophical concept riken no ken by Japanese theatrologists Zeami Motokiyo (1363-1443), as a theory concerning aesthetic perception and communication during dance performance. It can be looked at as a comparison to many Western kinesthetic theories, speaking about similar phenomena through a different language. His idea of perceiving the dancer's self from his own detached sight (feeling the eyes of the audience and seeing his own body by their eyes) while dancing is inspiring and thus can enrich our research in the question of dance and the senses.
