Dance and Masquerade Costumes in Český Krumlov Castle: Their Past and Present
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Depository of the Baroque Theatre of Český Krumlov Castle houses a vast collection of theatre and masquerade costumes and shoes. Many of those costumes, silent witnesses of the past time, were surely used for dance – both on stage or during the balls, mostly in the period from 1740 to 1920, when the castle belonged to the aristocratic family of Schwarzenbergs. This collection is complemented with inventories of costumes, kept in the Castle Archive together with other documents, such as sheet music, libretti and correspondence. The Wardrobe of Baroque Theatre of Český Krumlov Castle is certainly one of the most valuable and important collections worldwide, as it contains the examples of costumes from various genres of theatre, including dance and ballet from the Baroque, Rococo, Enlightment, Pre-Romantic and Romantic eras. Even though some of the costumes are incomplete and various changes were made on them, they teach us much about the master level of tailoring and taste and practical wisdom of their designers. And these aspects are very appealing also to the theatre designers today.
