Performing Arts Management Symposium 2019 - European Capitals of Culture

A symposium of the DAMU Department of Arts Management created a platform for complex analysis of aspects related to how to put projects of European Capitals of Culture into practice. The topic was chosen due to the upcoming date of the next Czech participation in ECOC (a European conference in the field of optical communication) in 2028, for which domestic cities can apply until the end of the year 2022. At the moment, there is already a lively discussion about possible candidates. The main themes focused on the best ways to approach the candidacy, how to connect it with current strategic goals, how best to create a strong brand and market the programme, what kinds of financial resources can be operated with and what is involved for management in conducting an event of such a scale. Also, how to properly design an evaluation and secure continuity of achieved outputs and positive effects. These subjects were addressed in four lectures, four workshops, contributions and moderated panel discussions by twenty leading foreign and local experts.
