Online conference "Theatre Audiences: The Crucial Asset" (26.-27. May 2021) by the Audience Segmentation System in European Theatres project (ASSET) offered two afternoons of presentations, discussions and an interactive programme devoted to theatre audiences. On the first day, the leaders of the ASSET project presented the results of a two-year research project that took place in the Czech, Austrian, Croatian, Bulgarian and Finnish capitals under British methodoligical leadership. It dealt with the questions like if it’s possible to talk about European audiences as a whole and what are the specifics of individual countries. The topic was developed through a panel discussion with experts from the fields of cultural policy Darko Lukic (CRO), Marjo Mäenpää (FIN), Wolfgang Graf (AT) and Jiří Sulženko (CZ). The organizers and partners of ASSET project also introduced an entirely new model for segmenting theatre audiences according to their preferred content. The second day of the conference featured an interactive programme with a workshop on segmentation led by The Audience Agency and discussion on the future of European Theatre Night. Excerpts from the programmes of theatres that took part in the research were also presented.
