Application of layered double hydroxides in fire-safe polymers
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are hydrotalcite-like nanomaterials composed of cationic layers with exchangeable anions in the interlayer. LDHs can be synthesized employing a wide range of trivalent and divalent cationic metal elements and anionic compounds. Due to their high anion exchange capability, tunable behavior, memory effect, eco-friendliness, ease of preparation, and low cost, these nano-materials have attracted scientists’ attention. Modification and intercalation of LDHs with different modifiers help to enhance their overall properties to make them an appropriate filler for industrial fields, exclusively as flame retardants for polymer composites. This chapter has discussed the structural features, major properties, and clarified the most common methods of intercalation of LDH nano-materials. Moreover, some novel and successful LDH modification methods have been mentioned, and their effect on the flame retardant properties of different polymeric materials has been reported.
