Properties of plasma sprayed alumina-chromia mixtures
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
One of the very important factors, often neglected, determining the final properties of a plasma sprayed deposit is its phase composition. It is well known that spraying of Alumina results usually in formation of other phases than the desired hard ?-phase (corundum) unless stabilizing admixture is added into the feedstock. In this work Chromia was used for stabilization and feedstock powders with 0, 8 and 33 wt % of Chromia, and unalloyed Chromia, were used to produced coatings by WSP(R). Two types of feedstocks were used: fused/crushed and a mixture of Alumina and Chromia powders. The effect of the Chromia content on phase composition, residual stresses, hardness and wear abrasion of coatings was studied. It has been proved by the microanalysis that acertain amount of Cr is transferred into Alumina particles during the "in-flight" reaction of both powders in the plasma jet. Complex "alloy" oxides form where part of Al is replaced by Cr and the ?-phase is partially stabilized.
