Development of transparent LiAl5O8ceramics: The role of precursor treatment and SPS temperature
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Transparent LiAl5O8 ceramics were fabricated for the first time using spark plasma sintering. The effects of the varying powder preparation method, powder pre-annealing temperature, sintering temperature, and cooling rate on the microstructure and optical quality of the resulting ceramics were investigated. Powders with a single-phase composition were prepared via Pechini polyesterification and solid-state reaction. Ceramics with the highest transmittance (75.4 % at 500 nm) were developed from powders synthesized by solid-state reaction and pre-annealed at 1100 °C. Other types of powder yielded ceramics with lower transparency as a result of increased internal light scattering or absorption. An optimal sintering temperature for LiAl5O8 powders was found to be 1400 °C. Higher sintering temperatures led to significant abnormal grain growth, while lower temperatures resulted in incomplete densification, yielding translucent or completely opaque ceramics.
