Specific features of pain diagnostics and therapy in geriatrics
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Aspects of pain occurrence in the elderly are discussed and from bibliographic we discuss reviews of the several-year trend of high prevalence of pain in the elderly - up to 50% in seniors living in their own environment and up to 80% in seniors living in institutions. The evidence of negative influence of pain on testing of activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living is very important. Positive correlation of pain and neglect syndrome was found. Pain causes behavioral disturbances in seniors - higher frequency of aggression was found in seniors with chronic pain. The occurrence of pain can be increased due to psychogenic factors - unsatisfactory relationships in the family, loneliness, and undiagnosed and untreated depression. Attention is paid to specifities and difficulties of pain diagnostics in elderly patients - the necessity of exactly formulated questions about pain regarding the tendency of seniors to consider pain as a common sign of old age.
