The authors deal with the topic of late age, a period of life in which biological, psychological and social consequences of aging can result in a risk situation, so called the crisis of living. For the growing number of elderly people in society is a life crisis situation often associated with the death of a life partner or partners, institutionalization, illness and limiting or lack of self-sufficiency. The paper focuses on life crises seniors, which is associated with (1) widowhood and (2) significantlimitations of self-sufficiency of individuals due to illness. The paper contains information about the investigated issues that led to the formulation of the research project, the objectives and research questions. Within the proposed project the empirical research was carried out to understand the social situation of seniors facing life crisis and identify strategies to manage these crises.
