Aunque solo en un espacio reducido, simplificando y de manera poco sistemática, hemos intentado presentar e interpretar el fenómeno de la leyenda negra antiespa?ola, tal vez la primera gran lucha propagandística de la historia moderna de Occidente. La hemos definido, la hemos diferenciado de simples conjuntos espontáneos de chismes y calumnias y hemos seguido brevemente sus transformaciones a lo largo de su trayectoria histórica, es decir, desde sus primeros vestigios en Italia en el siglo XIII hasta sus últimos ecos en el siglo XX.

Although only in a small space and simplifying, we have tried to present and interpret the phenomenon of anti-Spanish Black Legend, perhaps the first great propaganda struggle in the modern Western history. We have defined the legend and we have followedbriefly its transformations along its historical trajectory, that is, from its first traces in Italy in the thirteenth century to its last echoes in the twentieth century. We have also tried to show, in the specific case of the figure of Bartolomé de Las Casas, how similar propaganda campaign has a huge influence on historians and their work.
