The human civilisation, its development is associated with a number of changes, both in society as a whole, as well as in the area of settlement. Currently, we are in the framework of their settlementsto confront with changes that create spaces and places that they are currently becoming a liability for the further development, but also its possible stimulus, or opportunities. The paper is about this phenomenon called brownfield. It is not the task, nor to redefine this phenomenon, but especially in thefirst part of the paper to show historical conditionality and historical experience with the areas, spaces or places that lost its function for various reasons. However, it is also an integral part of the paper for an example or examples of what tools you can use to support their revitalization. The conclusion then includes the reasoning of some of the current limitations and the absence of prevention, but above all the long-term existence of areas that are brownfields.
