Interaction of wood matrix with historically used alkaline timber protection
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Lime coatings are a common historical technology, which was used mainly due to its high pH, not only for silicate materials but also for wooden treatment. This coating was used for its protective and hygienic properties or to improve the visual aspect. In addition, it was possible to add other additives, which could affect the colour of the coatings or even improve the protective function. However, contact with an alkaline substance can lead to material degradation in the case of wood. Namely, the phenomenon called alkaline hydrolysis of the polysaccharide component can result in a significant influence on the mechanical and physical characteristics. In this work, the effect of lime coating for wood will be investigated, especially its carbonation process by thermal analysis and optical microscopy and interaction of lime coating on the mechanical characteristics of wooden specimens.
