CFD mathematical modelling of motor-car fire in the road tunnel

Valik is the name of the road tunnel situated close to the city of Plzen in the western part of Czech Republic. A large scale fire test was conducted inside one of two tunnel tubes on May 25, 2006. During this test values of temperature and heat flux were measured and recorded. At the same time, values of CO, CO2 and O2 concentration were detected and recorded in the smoke zone. The aim of this experiment was to examine the natural ventilation conditions in the tunnel and to increase the level of fire security system. In period of year 2007, the process of the fire test was modelled by tools of CFD (software Fluent 6.3). The time-dependent source of heat and pollutants (CO, CO2 and O2) was defined in 3D geometry representing the tunnel tube. Fluid flow, temperature field and field of pollutants were investigated.
