The Faculty of Safety Engineering is a faculty that offers unique fields of studies focused on safety engineering, population protection and fire protection. In the Czech Republic this faculty is one of its kind, and therefore its graduates are sought after by experts both in public administration and in the private sector. Currently the compulsory course of "Population protection and environmental security" is taught at this faculty. The course provides basic knowledge in the field of environmental security and its importance for the population. It presents current environmental threats and their impacts on population. Within the innovation and improvement of teaching the worksheets were created to be used by part-time or full-time students. These worksheets serve to students as working material as a part of practice and as a source for self-studying. The goal of this article is to present the innovation process of the course "Population protection and environmental security". That includes introduction of the course and its classification to the study plan of the faculty. The process of worksheets creation is also described, their final appearance and the type of work exercise. At the end of the article the use of worksheets is evaluated.
