The current safety situation and the conclusions of a number of strategic and conceptual materials call for a wider involvement of the system of protection of the population in the field of spatial planning as well as construction management. The aim of the article is to approximate the requirements of population protection for transport structures. The article outlines the approaches of division of buildings in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. An example of building division approaches in the Czech Republic is public infrastructure, which is understood as transport and technical infrastructure, civic amenities and public spaces established and used in the public interest. Slovakia deals with residential and non-residential buildings, civil engineering, and public and technical equipment in the area. After approaching the approaches of division of buildings, the article deals more with transport structures, specifically airports and their division. The other parts of the article describe the link to protection zones, legislation and requirements for airports and requirements for their location. The result of the article is an outline of the requirements for the protection of the population for transport constructions, ie also airports applied in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
