In international railway transport it is a common phenomenon that vehicles (locomotives and railway cars) that are owned by a railway carrier serve connections in a foreign country. The carriers pay each other charges for traffic performance that was realized outside their home country. To minimize the charges, the carriers try to balance their traffic performances realized abroad as much as possible. The task about balancing traffic performances can be formulated as the problem of minimization of differences between traffic performances of both carriers realized abroad. That means the presented task belongs to optimization problems. A possible approach how to solve the problem is presented in the paper; we applied goal mathematical programming to solve it.
