Thermal degradation of the selected plastic waste material focusing on yield of liquid components

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

This article aims to assess the actual possibilities of thermal degradation during the processing of the plastic and the mixed plastic waste. For these materials, it can be problematic to find utilization in some of the available recycling processes. These selected materials have been processed in the prototype unit for thermal degradation in the non-oxygen environment. This technological equipment is designed for continuous feeding of the input material, the retort is heated by flue gas from natural gas and the device is equipped with a screw conveyor for moving the material inside the retort. As suitable input materials waste packaging materials were selected in the form of a mixture of aluminium foil and polyethylene, crushed mixed waste plastics and crushed PET waste. These selected materials were tested at a process temperature between 500 and 600°C. The main purpose was quantification of the output products with a focus on the liquid component. The obtained results show that the highest conversion of input material into the liquid product of depolymerisation has been achieved in the crushed mixed plastics at a process temperature of 600°C. For liquid products, analysis of the composition was processed and heating value was determined. The achieved research results lead to the intensification of the yield of liquid components during the thermal processing of suitable types of plastic waste.
