The project focuses on the characterization and processing of biomass and binder mixtures. Due to the world energy and ecological situation, it is important to use alternative fuels that have the smallest possible carbon footprint. Meadow hay biomass, which is carbon neutral, is used. The disadvantage of biomass is its low energy density, which is why the pelletization process is used. Furthermore, the influence of different types of binders on the physical-mechanical and chemical-thermal properties of the material is described.Three types of binders were tested: lignosulfonate, wheat flour and wheat starch. The investigated physical-mechanical properties of pellets were bulk and specific density, pellet durability index (PDI), hardness and wettability index (WI). From the point of chemical-thermal properties, it is an elementary analysis and energy parameters. Energy parameters include humidity, ash content and amount of combustible material.
