Reactive Power Control in Cogeneration Units
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This paper will be dealing with the issues encountered during connection of small power plants to the distribution grid and control of their reactive power. The small power plants considered will comprise cogeneration units fitted with combustion engines. The data obtained for assessment purposes was generated by the biogas station with the installed power per cogeneration unit equals 549 kW and 637 kW respectively. The power plant is linked to the outside MV power line rated for 22 kV. This paper shows the values measured with reference to problems associated with reactive power control. The problems with reactive power occur with multiple sources of reactive power in immediate vicinity (separated by low impedance only). This issue is most often seen when connecting a cogeneration unit to the distribution grid with the compensation system already integrated. Cogeneration units are provided with their own reactive power control, a larger source would have a synchronous generator: That is the source of reactive power, when its performance is increased by excitation. Great problems occurs once this source is connected to the grid with the initial compensation system installed. Each of these sources has its own reactive power control with various sensitivity settings. Their operations reveals conflicts between individual compensating sources. This problem is encountered at majority of small power plants installed in this way.
