The Czech Republic is short in energy resources except for coal and uranium. Coal accounts for 44 % of primary energy consumption (by 2030 estimated 30 ? 32 %). Coal-fired power plants account for 59 % of total electricity generation. Nuclear energy generation currently covers about 33 % of total electricity generation and 30 % of nuclear fuel supply is based on indigenous resources. Resources of brown coal are realtively abundant and significant quantities of hard coal, much of it suitable for coke production, are also present. Coal will continue to play an important, although decreasing, role in the prospective energy mix of the Czech Republic. Uranium resources are moderate and have been exploited, although production has fallen in recent years. Hawever, the geological exploration continues.
