It should be noted, despite the various discussions and existing strategies of the state, that coal is an important raw material for various industries, such as heavy industry, metallurgy and chemical industry.It is also crucial for the energy economy interms of production of electricity and process heat. The importance of coal in the world economy has been, and will continue to be, on the rise, as we are witnessing the declining reserves of oil and natural gas. Presently, this trend is being slightlysuppressed by the increasing use of nuclear power. At present, more than 44% of all electricity consumed in the world is produced from coal, in Europe it is about one-third. In general economic terms (especially nowadays, when business performance is strictly measured in terms of profit) the profitability of the technological process measured by the return of investment rate is of crucial importance.
