In the Czech Republic, there are still numerous structures that are made of materials containing asbestos. Asbestos fibres were used as building material, because they are resistant to high temperatures, they are chemically resistant, and they are not electrically conductive. Unfortunately, these fibres tend to form flying, fibrous dust in the air, which sticks to clothes, and it is easily respirable. Conclusive evidence on the harmful effects of inhaling asbestos dust on human health were not found before the 1970s. The aim of this paper is to inform about the dangers of asbestos and highlight the benefits of timely monitoring of the presence of asbestos, and demonstrate a new trend in the field of asbestos determination for the purposes of monitoring the risks associated with its occurrence.
