Pyrolysis of Polyethylene in the Laboratory Conditions
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
One of the possible innovative ways how to process and utilize waste is its pyrolysis in the pyrolysis unit Pyromatic 250. The tests were conducted by Ostravská LTS, a.s. in laboratory conditions in the ENET Center of VŠB-TU Ostrava. The input material was provided by MEVAPACK, s.r.o. Pyrolysis is a thermal decomposition of organic substances without access of oxygen. This decomposition produces three fractions - liquid fraction, gaseous fraction and a solid residue. These can be used for heating of the pyrolysis unit or, after they are refined, as a standard fuel. Processes occurring during pyrolysis are drying, the so-called dry distillation, high-molecular pyrolysis. Parameters that influence the pyrolysis are the holding time in the reactor, temperature of the process and the heating speed. The pyrolysis unit is equipped with measuring sensors and, for the purpose of analyses, it is possible to take samples from all three phases (gas, liquid and solid phase). The core (retort) of the screw conveyor is made of steel with a heat resistance of up to 1,000 oC. The pyrolysis gas from the process is cooled and collected in a gasholder. The test process with homogenized polyethylene from separation of aluminium-containing sandwiches, with 8 mm grading (HDPE + polypropylene), took place successfully on 22nd June 2017. The analysis of pyrolysis oil in MND a.s. revealed a lower flash point on one hand, but on the other hand acceptable content of sulphur and chlorine, and calorific value of 25.47 MJ/kg.
