Management of Earth's Mineral Resources - Lithium's Case
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Sustainable industrial development cannot be achieved without implementation of mineral safeguarding poli-cies. Profitability of extraction and processing represents a key factor for mineral industry sustained growth and its absence implies need for government intervention, which was the past situation of ore mining indus-tries in the Czech Republic in the period, 1945-1989. At the beginning of the nineties of the last century, ex-traction inefficiency, zero government intervention, and politically oriented decisions resulted in a complete discontinuation of ore mining activities in the Czech Republic. Recently, there has been interest in restoring extraction of residual ore deposits in abandoned mines. This paper takes into account the issue of lithium de-posit of Cínovec. Possible revival of decommissioned ore mines came as a surprise. Technicalities and proce-dures of the ore mine decommissioning policies implemented in the past will influence future revival efforts and the costs involved, i.e. considerations about profitability of restoring the ore mining activities as such.
