Evaluation of Microstructure at Laboratory Hot Rolling of Strips from Silicon Steel

The effect of finish rolling passes of laboratory hot rolled samples prepared from ordinary cast slab on final microstructure of the steel for electrical applications was studied. The investigated high silicon steel containing 3% Si was after heating to1260 °C lasting 20 minutes pre rolled with two, on successive double passes with the same relative deformation of about 20%. Before the series of final passes a 32% and 20%, 48% and 30%, 48% and 37% respectively, was put a cooling delay, whose purpose was to ensure the desired pre-defined finish rolling temperature, more accurately the temperature of rolled product with thickness of 2.5 mm after the last deformation. Then was a delay of a length of about 4 seconds, followed by accelerated cooling of rolled product with water spray to the desired temperature of 560 °C and a final air cooling.. From laboratory rolled specimens were prepared samples for microscopic evaluation of areas parallel to the longitudinal axis of rolling.
