The article informs about creation and activities of the Regional Materials Science and Technology Centre (RMSTC) at the VSB-Technical University of Ostrava, Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Science. The first stage of the project (?Start-up? stage) is focused on building of the centre in terms of investments into equipment, infrastructure and creation of research teams (2010 to 2013). The next stage of the project (2014 to 2018) will concern achievement of the state of sustainability, i.e., RMSTC own scientific and research activities, realisation of various national and international projects, cooperation with external companies, offer and sale of special materials and services, creation of prototypes, industrial designs, patents, technical publications, etc. From the viewpoint of material the activities are aimed at preparation of highly pure materials, special alloys, bio-medical materials, development of materials for high temperature applications, preparation of materials by p
