The problems of states and regions economic development is coming into focus in connection with the ongoing integration of the Czech Republic into the European Union. In spite of the fact that the political integration has already been completed by the Czech Republic's official entering the EU on May 1st 2004, the actual process of the economic integration will still continue for many years. The need for explaining and modeling the regional development and the level of interregional cooperation is coming into focus again. The regional economic models are the analogs of similar macroeconomic and national economy models; the state is neither their elementary unit nor the focus of interest but the region - namely at different levels of understanding.
