European Union of 27 Member States faces nowadays to increasing disparities in all regions and countries across the EU. It affects level of global performance and competitiveness of the European Union as a global player in the world economy. Europe makesan effort to renew the basis of its competitiveness through increasing its growth potential and its productivity and strengthening economic and social cohesion. The main interest is placed on the main emphasis on knowledge, innovation and the optimization of human capital. To achieve these objectives, the Union must mobilize all appropriate national and Community resources. Following this point of view the conference paper brings general view of EU competitiveness on the whole through the view of European Competitiveness Report 2007 and also in the frame of selected EU countries.
