Application of DEA for Evaluation of Regional Efficiency

This paper deals with multi-criteria approach for evaluation of the regional efficiency of NUTS2 regions in EU based on DEA methodology. The main purpose of this approach is an evaluation of numerical grades of efficiency of economical processes within the given group of all NUTS2 regions in Visegrad Four countries (V4). For this purpose the well known DEA models are used. Here, we follow our previous approaches to competitiveness of the NUTS3 regions in the Czech Republic that have been based on multi-criteria approach e.g. on Ivanovich deviation. The first step of our analysis divides the group of regions into three subgroups: fully efficient, efficient and inefficient regions with respect to amount or quality of isposable resources as inputs and/oradequate outputs during the period of 7 years. Then, in the second step, we obtain a more detailed view of regional competitiveness of the NUTS2 regions in V4 in the time period of 7 years.
