The aim of the paper is to present an overview of the most used theoretical approaches on cohesion and competitiveness and to analyse the EU data base leading to the identification of convenient indicators for recognizing the level of EU cohesion and competitiveness across EU Member States and regions. Theoretical background of the paper offers summary of the methodological approach to cohesion and competitiveness. Descriptive part of the paper is dedicated to explore the European Statistical Office data base and to identify appropriate indicators of economic, social and territorial disparities which reflect the level of cohesion and competitive advantage of the EU Member States and their regions.
