Assessment of the standard of living and quality of life of individual countries or regions and mutual comparison is very difficult. It can be based on many factors, some of which deal with material aspects of life, other aspects are focused on conditions of life such as health care, quality education or clean environment. The aim of the paper is evaluate development of the net household income which is crucial part of the living standards of the households. The paper is especially focused on the situation during current economic crises in the Czech Republic but also describes changes of the income level in the nineties. According to the results, the economic crises and subsequent decline in the real net income negatively has affected namely the unemployed as well as households with children. Negative real growth of the net income was not found among pensioner and childless households. Despite of unfavourable development of the net household income in the recent years which has affecte
