The focus of the integration program of the European Union, and its main focus from the beginning have been, besides political goals, the creation of a common market, which would provide key economic freedom. The article is focused on the critical historical events during the formation of various degrees of economic integration through the prism of the primary law of the EC / EU, which eventually led to the creation and realization of the internal market, as it is currently defined in Article 26/2 TFEU- defined as "an area without internal frontiers in which the free movement of goods, persons, services and capital is ensured in accordance with the provisions of the Treaties". The aim is to explain the complex mechanism of functioning of the EU internal market, including the historical context of its creation until the evaluation of its current state.
