The position of the individual countries in world trade changes and also the comparative advantages of countries vary under the influence of different factors. The main goal of this paper is to confirm the hypothesis that the higher the amount of a product with a revealed comparative advantage, the higher export diversification in the case of the European Union and Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS countries). The second goal is to identify whether the product diversification and territorial diversification of the countries surveyed have increased. The results of the analysis show that the distinctions in development of the revealed comparative advantages in the invidual BRICS countries in the period 2001-2013 as well as the dominantposition of the EU in this area was confirmed.
