The article deals with the social responsibility of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Czech Republic. On the basis of secondary research, it analyses the level of awareness of social responsibility among SMEs and based on a survey being realized in 2015, it discusses the role of consulting companies in corporate social responsibility concept building in SMEs. There were 10 counselling companies involved in the brief questionnaire. Based on 9 criteria and pair comparison methods, it was investigated whether these companies are adopting the CSR concept, what is their competitiveness and the role in relation to SMEs, which they provide an advice with as it comes to the implementation of the three pillars of social responsibility. Results of the investigation confirmed that the consulting companies having the concept of social responsibility implemented in their strategy are assessed better and are more competitive.
