An Influence of Remittances on the Aggregate Consumption Growth – Evidence from Central America
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The impact of remittances on aggregate consumption behaviour has been proven for many times already, yet these international transfers still often remain on the edge of macroeconomic analysis, which is one of the most important supports for making economic policy – a state management. This approach can be acceptable for fully developed countries, where aggregate aspect of remittances would be barely visible. But in environment of the developing world, where remittance inflows may be an important source of national income, we would hardly be able to create accurate a realistic aggregate consumption function without the knowledge of remittances’ influence. The aim of this study is to analyze the aggregate consumption growth in terms of remittance flows using data from countries of Central America. To achieve this objective, we use a panel data regression, which results firstly confirm the direct influence of remittance growth on the growth of aggregate consumption and secondly they provide a basic view of consumption effect of remittances in the specific environment of the Central America region.
