IMPACT OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON PROCESS OF EUROPEAN ECONOMIC INTEGRATION: FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The European Union (EU) is a unique partnership in which member states pooled sovereignty in certain policy areas and harmonised laws on various economic and political issues. The EU is the latest stage in European integration that began after World War II. The EU is largely viewed as a cornerstone of European stability and prosperity. However, for much of the last decade, the EU has faced considerable economic difficulties, including the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 epidemic struck the EU with exceptional speed, severity, and breadth. The EU has had to help and protect the European economy, the member states, and European citizens. Thanks to the COVID-19 crisis, resilience is gaining prominence and importance. The COVID-19 crisis shows how it has reduced the resilience of key systems to shocks and allowed failures to cascade from one system to others. Therefore, a systems approach based on resilience must be proposed to prepare socio-economic systems for future shocks. The chapter aims to summarise the process of European economic integration and present how the EU deals with the COVID-19 pandemic.
