Monolithic TiO2-CeO2 and Pt/TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foams in oxidation of dichloromethane and methanol

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam and Pt/TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam were prepared via using a simple reverse micelles-assisted sol-gel method, dip-coating and calcination and were investigated in oxidation of two VOCs - dichloromethane and methanol. In dichloromethane oxidation, Pt/TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam showed improved CO2 selectivity compared to TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam, while their activity and HCl selectivity were comparable. Impregnated PtOx species were responsible for higher reducibility of Pt/TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam leading to higher CO2 yield. In methanol oxidation, Pt/TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam showed improved catalytic activity as well as CO2 selectivity compared to TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam. A weak Lewis acidity and high weak basicity of TiO2-CeO2 support and well-reducible PtOx species in Pt/TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam were responsible for its improved catalytic efficiency. Overall comparison with other reported commercial and laboratory-prepared catalysts revealed that in dichloromethane oxidation the developed Pt/TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam and TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam did not exceed the catalytic activity of alumina-based commercial monolithic and granulated catalysts, but showed satisfactory HCl selectivity (70% at T80). Lower catalytic activity of TiO2-CeO2-based catalytic foams can be attributed to insufficient acidity (missing medium and strong Brönsted acidity) of TiO2-CeO2 support. In methanol oxidation, Pt/TiO2 CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam as well as TiO2-CeO2@VUKOPOR®A foam showed lower catalytic activity and CO2 selectivity than CuO-containing@VUKOPOR®A foams.
