INFLUENCE OF SYNOVIAL FLUID FROM FAILED TOTAL JOINT ARTHROPLASTIES ON SaOS-2
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The most effective surgical therapy for end-stage hip and knee osteoarthritis is total joint arthroplasty. On the other hand, achieved outcomes deteriorate with time mainly due to osteolysis and aseptic loosening. Both of them are associated with polyethylene wear deliberating from artificial joints during each step. These particles are phacocytosed mainly by macrophages which then trigger cascades of events resulting eventually in osteolysis and aseptic loosening. This was coined a particle or polyethylene disease and there was postulated that joint fluid could contain all of the signals participating on pathophysiology of that disease. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of joint fluid samples from patients with failed and well-functioned total hip/knee arthroplasty on the viability and proliferation of SaOS-2. The samples were obtained after written informed consent and under standard conditions. They were centrifuged for 10 minutes at 2500 rpm to remove cells and o
