Quality of life and depression in Parkinson´s disease
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Introduction: In Europe the prevalence of Parkinson´s disease has been estimated between 65.6 per100 000 inhabitants and 12 500 per100 000 inhabitants. It is one of the most widespread diseases affecting, of course, the patients` quality of life. The aim of our research was to determine the level of quality of life and depression as well as their mutual relationship in patients with Parkinson`s disease, and further to compare the variables monitored with a control group. Method: We adopted the quantitative research design using two standardized questionnaires – Quality of life assessment WHOQOL-BREF, and Beck depression inventory BDI-II. The research was carried out in neurology out-patients` departments in the Czech Republic between October 2016 and January 2017. The data were evaluated with non-parametric tests, the level of significance at 5%. Results: The results show no statistically significant difference in the quality of life between the sample researched and the control group. We can note that there is statistically significant difference in the level of depression between the two groups (p < 0.001). We also found statistically significant negative relationship between the overall quality of life and depression in patients with Parkinson`s disease, rs = -0.769. Conclusion: With regard to the ever increasing incidence of Parkinson`s disease, it is important to deal with its impact on the quality of life. Depressive symptomatology forms an integral part of Parkinson`s disease clinical record, however, it is often underrated. We have to pay attention to psycho-social factors in Parkinsion`s disease sufferrers, manifestations of depression in particular.
